Hi God, Is This the Door?

Have you ever had something happen and immediately thought, "Is this it?"
Maybe an opportunity comes along that seems almost too perfectly timed or you've been praying about something for months and suddenly a door opens. I've been there! I think sometimes we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to know exactly what every opportunity means.
Is this God? Is this the door I've been waiting for? Am I supposed to walk through it?
What if I say no and miss what God has for me? What if I say yes and realize later that I wasn't supposed to? I wish discernment always came with a flashing sign.
THIS IS THE ONE! WALK THROUGH IT!
It would certainly make things easier. Scripture doesn't give us a formula for identifying God's will where every good opportunity automatically equals God's direction. Sometimes a good opportunity is just a good opportunity. Sometimes something can be exciting, beneficial, and even something you've prayed for and still not be what God is asking you to do. Just like sometimes a closed door isn't evidence that you did something wrong. It might simply mean God is leading you somewhere else.
I think about Paul in Acts 16. Paul and his companions were traveling and wanted to preach in certain places, but Scripture tells us that the Holy Spirit prevented them from going where they intended to go. Eventually, Paul received a vision directing them toward Macedonia. They were moving and doing good work. They had a plan and, suddenly, God redirected them.
I find that incredibly comforting in this season of my life. Because sometimes I assume that if I'm following God, everything should become clearer as I go. But sometimes following God means realizing this isn't the direction we're supposed to go after all. That doesn't mean the time was wasted. Even though I absolutely loathe wasting my time. It means you are following a God who can redirect you.
Which is an important distinction when we're trying to figure out what's next.
We don't have to be terrified of making the wrong decision.
We can seek wisdom, pray, look at what Scripture says, listen to the Holy Spirit. and invite wise people into the conversation. And then sometimes we actually have to make a decision without having absolute certainty. That's the part I don't always like. I'd love to know the outcome before I take the step. I'd like God to show me exactly where the road leads so I can be confident that I'm headed in the right direction.
Sometimes God gives us enough light for the next step and asks us to trust Him with the rest.
And maybe that's why I'm learning to stop asking only, "Is this the door?" I'm trying to ask better questions. Does this align with Scripture? Does this move me toward the things God has already called me to? Am I pursuing this because God is leading me or because I'm afraid I'll miss an opportunity?
Am I willing to walk away if God closes the door? Am I willing to walk through it if He opens it?
And maybe most importantly: Am I willing to let God be the one who decides?
Because that's really what surrender looks like.
I can pursue something without deciding that it has to work out. I can be excited about an opportunity without making it my hope. I can knock on a door without trying to break it down. And I can trust that if God wants me somewhere, He is perfectly capable of getting me there. That doesn't mean everything will be easy. It doesn't mean every door will open. It means I don't have to carry the responsibility of controlling the outcome.
God is capable of leading me even when I don't have perfect clarity. He's capable of redirecting me when I need to turn, of closing a door I thought was right, and of opening one I never saw coming.
So this week as we continue to ask questions about what is next in this season let's be praying "God, give me the wisdom to recognize Your leading, the courage to follow it, and the humility to let You redirect me."
